StrategEast and Atlantic Council hosted a panel discussion “The digital component of Ukraine’s resistance to Russian aggression”

On May 17, StrategEast and Atlantic Council hosted a discussion on how Ukraine’s IT community is combating Russian aggression.

Opening the discussion, Mykhailo Fedorov, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine briefly walked through the latest updates in Ukraine’s digital landscape and encouraged international financial institutions, global development agencies, leading tech companies, and foreign government institutions support Ukraine in their digital fight against Russia’s invasion.

Anatoly Motkin, President of StrategEast has presented the main findings of a newly issued report “Ukrainian Digital Resistance to Russian Aggression”. Talking about the most important initiatives in the role of the IT sector in Ukraine’s victory and post-war recovery, Mr. Motkin underlined joint forces of the government and the private sector and technological embargo of Russia. Mr. Motkin believes Ukraine is capable of becoming a role model for Eurasia for positive impact IT industry could deliver and the country has potential of becoming a regional IT hub.

The panel discussion on the challenges facing Ukraine’s digital sector also included Oleksandr Bornyakov, Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation for IT Development of Ukraine, Viktoriya Tigipko, founding partner and managing director of TA Ventures, Giorgi Aleksidze, CEO of NewAge, and Denis Gursky, founder and CEO of SocialBoost NGO. The event was moderated by Andrew D’Anieri, assistant director at the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center.
