StrategEast hosts online panel “Green Energy in Eastern Partnership Countries”
The countries of the European Union approved the Green Deal and announced the transition to renewable energy sources as one of the priorities for economic development. But Europe’s green industry will be of little benefit if neighboring countries continue to rely on polluting traditional energy. How can the EU motivate the countries of the Eastern Partnership to join the European Green Deal? These issues to be discussed on StrategEast Live session “Green Energy in Eastern Partnership countries”.
Join us on Wednesday, August 5 at 10:00-11:00 EST (16:00-17:00) CET
Speakers:
- Olga Khakova, Associate Director for European Energy Security, Atlantic Council;
- Victor Parlicov, National Expert, Covenant of Mayors East in Moldova;
- Nino Tandilashvili, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.
Panel Moderator: Oleksandra Gumeniuk, Director, European Ukrainian Energy Agency.
Among the issues to be discussed on the panel are:
– EU goal is for Europe to be the first climate neutral continent by 2050. What could be the interest of the Eastern Partnership countries to join this initiative, given the high cost of such a transition?
– The investments required for the implementation of the European Green Deal are estimated at 1 trillion euros and will be formed from the budgets of the EU, the budgets of the participating countries and private investments. And how could the transition to green energy be financed in the Eastern Partnership countries? In particular, what could be the role of international financial institutions?
– Is it possible to include the Eastern Partnership countries in the Pan-European market of “green energy”? What place can energy companies of the Eastern Partnership countries take on it?
